Los Angeles, CA — Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center is proud to announce the appointment of jimmy vega as its new Executive Director.
The Board of Trustees warmly welcomes vega into this role and expresses strong confidence in his leadership. Having served as Associate Director and most recently Interim Director, vega has been integral to the organization’s recent growth. His work includes developing an expanded workshop program, launching the inaugural Manuscript Lab, directing the Linda J. Albertano Poetry Fellowship, collaborating with the City of Los Angeles’ Department of Cultural Affairs on the 2024 Paris to L.A. International Cultural Olympiad reading at the Los Angeles Central Library, and continuing Beyond Baroque’s important work as a founding member of the Poetry Coalition, a nationwide alliance of literary leaders coordinated by the Academy of American Poets.
vega will both honor Beyond Baroque’s long standing legacy and guide it toward continued growth and evolution. His commitment to fostering creative expression and supporting diverse voices aligns with the organization’s mission, and positions him to strengthen Beyond Baroque’s role as a vital cultural hub for poets, writers, artists, its members, and the public.
The Board also extends its deep gratitude to Quentin Ring for his six years of visionary leadership as Executive Director and twelve years of dedicated service to the organization. Under Ring’s guidance, Beyond Baroque expanded its programming, deepened its community impact, and further established itself as a cornerstone of the literary arts in Los Angeles. The organization is pleased that he will remain closely connected to its community.
In announcing the transition, Board President Luivette Resto thanked Ring for his service and welcomed vega: “Since joining Beyond Baroque as an intern in 2019, jimmy’s roles have been as bookseller, operations manager, and workshop coordinator before becoming Assistant Director in 2022 then Associate Director in 2024. In all capacities jimmy has shown passion, creativity, and a deep commitment to our mission,” Resto said. “Under his leadership the organization will continue to thrive while remaining rooted in the community it has long served.”
vega shared: “I’m extremely humbled and grateful to continue to serve Beyond Baroque and the community of writers, artists, readers, and thinkers it supports as the next Executive Director. Beyond Baroque is not only a historic national literary arts center, but one of the nation's great community spaces that continues to foster and uplift language, experimentation, and play. I look forward to leading the effort in growing and propelling our community across Los Angeles and beyond.”
